Thinking Outside the Square – A Housekeeping Industry Initiative
All accommodation hotels have one thing in common – the requirement to turnaround rooms quickly and efficiently to maximise their yields. The Housekeeping Department is sourced with doing the hard work and Hotels are using a variety of options including internal and outsourced Housekeeping workers to provide this service.
Often Hotel’s make decisions on whether to keep the Housekeeping department services themselves or outsource to third party housekeeping contractors like AHS and others based on the availability and quality of suitably qualified Housekeepers.
International Housekeeping Appreciation Week at Hilton Al Ain, UAE
This is what the Housekeeping Team at Hilton Al Ain, UAE did during International Housekeepers Week. 1) The very first day we had a briefing in the Garden with High Tea. 2) Day 2, we had a towel decoration competition, in which we called our In-house guests to judge the best towel art. 3) Day 3, we had an activity called Carving for Donut. It was real fun. 4) Day 4, we had an activity called pick up and drop off with three legs. And since the hotel is busy we planned to do the last three days activity during our communication meeting. Advances in Gloss Levels Enhance Polish-free Stone Floor Maintenance
As the relatively new concept of stone floor maintenance, using diamond impregnated floor pads, has gathered momentum in recent times, some of the shortcomings of the concept have become apparent.
Not that the concept is riddled with shortcomings. It is not. Rather, it is an incredibly effective and reduced-cost method compared to the old-fashioned use of superficial polishes on stone floors, polishes that rack up very high maintenance costs.
However, one aspect that has, up to now, provided a reason for building owners to reject the system has been the inability to produce the gloss of newly laid polish. And property owners and managers have been prepared to forgo the maintenance cost savings in favour of appearance. Not that this is a true reflection of the comparison between the two systems.
