2nd Housekeeping UKHA Olympics

olympicsThe UKHA had an amazing day on January the 24th at the Millennium & Copthorne Hotel at Chelsea football Club when the 2nd Housekeeping UKHA Olympics took place. The 23 Housekeeping teams from London and beyond competed for 1st prize which was a one night stay for each team member at the luxurious Jumeirah Carlton Tower Hotel this was won by the K West Hotel & Spa.  The teams of 4 individuals demonstrated their skills and knowledge of Housekeeping for the UKHA Olympics.

The day started with a big welcome from Anne Britton the UKHA Chairman with a full run down of the day ahead.

The competition commenced with a skills test “The Knowledge” a long questionnaire for the team to respond to, followed by the “Eye to detail” where a selected member of each team had to enter a test room and find the hidden spots in a record speed, to demonstrate that individual can spot mistakes or errors. The following tests were the dreaded “Toilet Ball” an agility based test that brought lots of laughter, but is so much harder than envisaged. We then moved to the “Vacuuming competition” and finished with the “bed making challenge”.

During the day a number of contestants were invited to visit the Chelsea Football Club and were privy to the “behind the scene” area. We also had Work Safe, who organised a think tank work shop on a cleaning bucket design, where teams could design their ideal bucket. Hopefully this will be made for them.

The Copthorne Hotel received us so well and Mark White the General Manager organised a fantastic buffet lunch for all of us. Dino and his team ensured that all was run very smoothly, it was like an military action.

The aim of the competition being to find the best all round team, skilled in all areas of Housekeeping and to ensure that each individual had a day to remember. We also selected our “Rising Star”.

The grand final winners were announced after serious deliberations by the Judges. After the awards were presented the closing speech was kindly given by Francis Stainton Mayor of Hammersmith and Fulham.
