Lycette & Associates presented at the Housekeepers Share Knowledge Day
The UK Housekeeper Association invited Liz Lycette to present at the Share Knowledge Day held on Tuesday 22nd January 2013 at the prestigious Jumeirah Carlton Towers Hotel in Knightsbridge. The presentation, ‘Maintaining Quality in Guest Rooms and Public Areas’ was well received by the audience of over 60 housekeepers and general managers. Other topics presented included finance excel spreadsheets, emotional intelligence and the digital Housekeeper.
The afternoon session was an introduction into back of house design with best practice and benefits, the group then presented what they currently do with some ideas for the future.
High words of phrase came from Anne Britton, President of UKHA and organiser of the day.
“You were just wonderful. You are inspirational. I just loved your presentation you make a subject that can be boring fun but still cramming in the information, shaking us up to do better and putting us up-to-date with the latest devises. All in all a winning success. Thank you very much to have been part of our UK Share Knowledge day; your input was instrumental to that successful day.”
Lycette & Associates thanks Anne Britton and the UKHA for the opportunity to speak at the Share Knowledge Day.
PHAN members celebrate
On a splendidly warm day in December and the first day of Summer PHAN members went out to visit the wineries with some gourmet shopping in the Hunter Valley.
It was a full on day for the annual end of year winding up, Christmas party, letting down of hair, relax and have a fun time with colleagues and friends.
The happy band met at Menzies at 9am, collected their coffee and croissant and party hat – and embarked for the journey. The pictures will tell the story.
At Ernest Hill Wines– Host Hamish took all through some delightful reds and whites explaining their uniqueness and listing all the prizes the wines won. At Tempus Two more tasting of award winning wines and hoed into a wonderful lunch of home made gourmet pizza.
The afternoon was spent in the shops, cheese, chutneys, local mangoes were a great draw for the shoppers on the trip.
Lalini de Silva – encouraged the singing of favourite songs from home country. From China, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Poland there were wonderful solos, and all sang along to the best known international Christmas songs.
A great way to spend a day out celebrating with colleagues and friends.
Shades of Pink – PHAN supports Cancer Research
It was the annual Hospitality event where Housekeepers of Sydney get together to support a great cause. This year the event, organized by Ziva Laverky of Ziva Corporate Uniforms, included our male colleagues and friends – with the “Movember” – moustache growing supporters for research into male Cancers joining with the ladies in pink – for a splendid morning tea. The ladies from the NSW Chamber joined the hospitality colleagues this year and they were warmly welcomed.
Nearly everyone attending rose to the challenge to wear a touch of pink. It’s amazing how many men have a pink shirt and a pink tie. So the tradition of wearing pink to show your support for the work of Cancer Research was well and truly upheld.
The Master of Ceremonies for the day – Paul Judge, wearing his best pink tie – opened by identifying awareness being the key for today’s issues of preventative, strategic and innovative lifestyle choices. He introduced the speakers Shula Endrey-Walder who worked with E Donald Thomas, the Harvard Don who brought stem cell development to the world – and Kirsten Hartley a naturopathic herbalist.
Shula is co-founder of the Gift of Life charity and in 2010 was recognized by the award of an OAM for her important work in combatting many diseases.
Shula and Ziva met when their children were just starting school. They became friends as did their children and both families have journeyed many years together. Shula’s husband is a well-respected cancer surgeon and both women have worked tirelessly raising funds for important cancer research to continue.
Along with donations on the day and wonderful lucky door prizes – an auction of artwork, donated by Meriton Hotels raised $330 for the research project – the total monies raised on the day was $1668
The staff at the Department of NSW Trade and Investment and their Manager Jane Randall worked their own magic at a very special venue that we are proud to claim, as “home” for what has become an annual cancer research fundraiser.
