This workshop helps to clarify and demystify everyday Housekeeping related operational finance and accounting practices. It explains in simple and clear language the different budgets a Housekeeper deals with, the structure, reading and analysis of a P&L, and offers many tips and tools on how to save and control departmental costs. The program thus develops participants’ confidence and professional know-how when dealing with the financial management of their department and enables them to contribute to the profitability and financial success of their operation.
The fully accredited (Australia) online “Finance for Housekeepers” program is mapped against the three financial Units of Competency from the Australian Certificate IV in Hospitality from the Tourism, Hospitality and Events Training package v2 (SIT07).
Master Students – training at Blue Mountains International Hotel School
From 1st August – 4th August, Liz spent time at the Blue Mountains International Hotel School campus at Leura in the mountains outside Sydney. She was asked to lecture 34 Masters (Hospitality Operations Management MCH603) students from all over the world over 2 days. The session ended with the students presenting their ideas for management on topics such as the pros and cons of outsourcing, a 5 day training programme for new Room Attendants and sustainable best practice in Housekeeping. The programme continues in September with another 35 Masters students.

Housekeeping Management Skills 2 day Workshop in Macau
At the end of Liz’s 10 week global trip she hit Macau and ran a short 2 day Housekeeping Management skills training workshop. This is the 3 day Development Programme condensed down into 2 days. With short notice, 10 attendees came from Galaxy, Sands Hotels and Grand Lapa to undertake the workshop.
Ecolab very kindly provided the venue for the training and once again the participants shared best practice, leant new skills, networked, gained practical tools and communicated ideas. Another very fruitful and well received training session.

This self-directed course enables Housekeeping Manager’s to think critically and become more financially savvy. The focus is on practical skills for the workplace, expanding and developing professional confidence. The course is facilitated, clear and simple learning via the internet – scheduled over 8 weeks and over approximately 20 hours:
- downloadable on-the-job tools and templates
- interactive forums with global peers
- case studies and practical work exercises
- assessments evaluated by the facilitator and returned with individual feedback

Housekeeping Training for the 2014 budgets
A reminder for your training budgets for 2014 – we will be coming to a city/region near you so put the funds into your budget this year for next years training. Venues include Hong Kong, Macau, China, Singapore, Manila, Bali, Jakarta and Surabaya, Kuala Lumpur, Abu Dhabi/Dubai, London, Dublin and Malta with all course fees and charges included. We will also run the online “Finance for Housekeeping Managers” 4 times over the year at a cost of Aus$590.
Bumper Attendance at Hong Kong Hotel Association workshops June 2013
The ever popular Development Programmes for Housekeeping Managers Part 1 and Part 2 were rolled out again in Hong Kong through the Hong Kong Hotel Association in mid-June.
Over 22 participants joined in with 18 covering all 5 days together. A great opportunity to learn and network with many Front Office and Rooms Division colleagues joining in to brush up their Housekeeping management skills.
L&A Back in Bali for more workshops run through the Bali Hotel Association
Liz and Agnes continued with the ever popular Housekeeping Management training workshops conducted in association with Bali Hotel Association in Den Pasar Bali at the end of May.
Courses included the 2 day Quality Assurance workshop and the Coaching Skills for Hospitality supervisors with many Front office and Rooms Division colleagues joining in.
L&A Development Programme Part 2 delivered in London
L&A have completed a 2nd successful Housekeeping Management workshop on 14th and 15th May at the Arch Hotel in London. 14 participants came from as far afield as Malta and Ireland to gain skills in project management and learn presentation skills. Having the Engineer from the Arch participate was a highlight as we all learnt a great deal from Robin on the Engineering perspective, an added plus.
Topics of the Development Programme Part 2 covered over the 2 days included cleaning concepts and control systems for public areas, working with contractors, preventative maintenance programmes and project management. Including learning how to design a critical path using a Gantt chart. Day 2 included environmental sustainability, current environmental global best practice and what this means.
The afternoon session included health and safety for Housekeeping. At the end of the day participants presented a project to the group which they would then take back into their operation. Anne Britton from UKHA and the GM of the Arch Grant Powell presented all participants with certificates.

Guest Lecture Opportunity at Enderun College, Manila, the Philippines
Liz was invited to Enderun College whilst she was at the Peninsula Manila for a month. This gave her a great opportunity to address some of the hospitality students from the Advanced Hotel Operations Course. Her presentation was on Management skills training through Housekeeping with new trends and innovations and a group debate.
She also shared some tips on the next Step – getting that job. The group debate on the pros and cons of using technology in housekeeping Department was lively and engaging and provoked the students to think seriously about choosing housekeeping management has a potential career path
