For 364 days a year, housekeeping in Vegas is a serious job. And on the day of the annual Las Vegas Housekeeping Olympics, it’s just serious fun.

The Las Vegas Housekeeping Olympics, the annual event that pits teams of housekeepers from the city’s largest resorts against one another in a battle of skill, spirit and silliness, took place Wednesday evening at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.

MGM Resorts teams faired well, with Monte Carlo bringing home first place and Mandalay Bay garnering third. The combined Wynn-Encore team took second place.

Call it beginners luck: Monte Carlo Executive Housekeeper Nayeem Haque has been with the resort just five months before leading his team to their first ever (that we know of!) Housekeeping Olympics victory.

“It’s a wonderful feeling, but it’s the employees on my team who deserve all of the credit – their hard work, their dedication,” he said. “They’re the number one housekeeping team in the whole city, and tonight they proved it.”

Did they ever. Monte Carlo placed in all four of the event’s sporting competitions: the mop race, the bed-making competition, the vacuum race and the buffer pad toss. The performance was good enough to dethrone three-time defending champions Mandalay Bay on their home turf. But there were no hard feelings.

“This really is all about fun,” Mandalay Bay President Chuck Bowling told the crowd Wednesday night. “This is a good time of year to stop and recognize together that Las Vegas is the number one travel destination in the world and that’s because of you. Tonight is about fun and competition, but it’s the hard work you do each and every day that we are all really proud of.”
